The problem

Streaming boxes became billboards.

The home screens on most streaming devices now lead with sponsored rows, autoplaying trailers and "recommended for you" content that nobody asked for. In a room you paid to make beautiful, the TV is the one thing that looks like an ad.

They also don't know anything about your house. Your Control4 system knows the lights, the locks, the doorbell and the schedule. The TV never shows any of it.

Navigation, Menu and app shortcuts work from the Control4 remote and app over the network. No extra remote on the coffee table.

House status on screen

See which lights are on and which doors are unlocked without picking up a phone. You choose what shows in Composer.

Reminders from the house

Control4 can put a notice on the TV: "Trash night," "Garage is open," "Pool heater on." It clears itself when the job is done.

Late-night mode

Fell asleep with the TV on? After an hour idle, Encore puts the SHIELD to sleep and can tell Control4 to turn the room off.

Screensavers that look like gear

Hi-fi faceplate, record crate and gallery themes, with the time, your calendar and house status, instead of a blank screen.

Why the SHIELD

The best box to build on.

Roku and Apple TV are good players, but neither lets us replace the home screen or connect it to Control4 in both directions. The NVIDIA SHIELD does.
